Wild Encounters: Nick Liefhebber’s Colorful Campaign for ARTIS Zoo

Dutch designer and illustrator Nick Liefhebber created a vibrant visual world for Summer Nights at ARTIS Zoo in Amsterdam. Held every Saturday throughout July and August, the evening program keeps the park open until sunset, pairing its animal exhibits with live music, food trucks and a relaxed after-hours atmosphere.

Commissioned by Natwerk Agency in 2024, Nick initially developed a series of illustrated picnic blankets filled with animal facts and playful prompts. Each blanket formed one section of a larger composition, encouraging visitors to connect their designs and reveal the complete image together.

The concept soon expanded across the wider campaign, appearing on scavenger hunts, merchandise, postcards, signage, window graphics and colorful installations throughout the park. Packed with overlapping foliage, animal silhouettes and bursts of saturated color, the illustrations transform ARTIS into a dense, slightly psychedelic ecosystem.
