Weightless: Delicate Illustrations by Hoi Chan
Published Feb 28, 2025
New Orleans-based artist Hoi Chan creates illustrations that feel like they’re floating on air.
His work often blends elements of nature, windswept leaves, soft shadows, and flowing water, all with a sense of personal introspection. There’s a weightlessness to his creations, almost as if his use of texture and light is designed to gently suspend your thoughts in mid-air.
Chan’s work has the ability to draw you in with subtle details that encourage reflection. A figure tangled in complex tree roots suggesting vulnerability or another floating in mid-air, evoking feelings of freedom or longing. His talent for balancing softness with depth has earned him collaborations with a dream list of clients like Apple, The New Yorker, The New York Times and Spotify, among many others.
