Violet: Gorgeous Patterned Glass Sculptures by Marius Boekhorst
Published Jan 22, 2026
Dutch multidisciplinary artist and designer Marius Boekhorst transforms a familiar domestic material into something visually unstable through refraction and blur. In his Violet and Violet Frosted series, flowers are encased inside glass cubes, turning patterned glass into a sculptural tool that actively controls how color and form are perceived.
The patterned surfaces fracture the floral arrangements into layered fields of color, pushing them away from clarity and toward abstraction. Transparency, distortion and surface texture interrupt a direct view, forcing the eye to navigate depth rather than settle on a single image. The glass acts as a filter rather than a container, breaking the bouquet into painterly fragments that shift with movement.
Across the collection, perception becomes material-driven. Marius treats glass as an image-maker, one that reshapes color, form and memory. Familiar elements remain present, but never fully visible, giving each piece the tension of a still life in constant transformation.
