Velcro on Canvas: Amazing Portraits by Sangyoon Jeong
Published Oct 12, 2023
Sangyoon Jeong is a South Korean artist who recently caught our attention due to his unique approach to portraiture. In addition to conventional paintings and digital compositions, he also crafts stunning portraits using an unexpected material: velcro.
Jeong’s work, which can be found on his Behance profile and Instagram, showcases his innovative use of this everyday material. His series STARE features some of the hauntingly beautiful portraits that he creates by adhering velcro to canvas.
He starts his process by creating a basic background using white velcro on canvas or a wood panel. By layering different colors and sizes of velcro, he’s able to create a depth and texture that brings each portrait to life.
Jeong’s innovative use of materials and his ability to create such striking, dynamic images is truly inspiring. His creations clearly show that art can never be confined by tradition or expectation.
