Urban Inspiration: The Painterly Work of Leonie Bo
Published Jul 2, 2025
Amsterdam-based artist Leonie Bos has a remarkable gift for turning digital art into something beautifully analogue. Using tools like Procreate, Photoshop and SketchUp, she builds layered illustrations that echo the look of paintings and screen prints.
Geometry, grids and light play central roles in Leonie’s work, but so does restraint. Her carefully curated colour palettes and minimal details focus the viewer’s eye on atmosphere and mood. While architecture has shaped much of her practice, her recent shift towards incorporating the human figure signals an exciting new direction in her art.
When she’s not at her desk, Leonie roams Amsterdam, sketchbook in hand, capturing the ordinary moments that make the city endlessly inspiring to her. Her eyes are mostly drawn to fleeting urban scenes on her daily commute, rather than the famous postcard spots.
