The Treehouse, Mask in the Forest by Moguang Studio

The Treehouse by Moguang Studio is a beautiful hidden gem in the Guangjiachong Valley, Suizhou, China. Designed on a compact 90㎡ plot surrounded by ancient trees, the architects faced the tricky task of preserving the tree roots while creating two spacious guest rooms and storage. Their ingenious solution was to lift the whole structure above ground, turning the lower level into a lively space for relaxing, dining, and soaking in the scenery.

The design beautifully balances nature and geometry. A rotated staircase makes exploring the space feel like an adventure, while sleek geometric openings frame perfect views of the forest, replacing traditional windows. The result is a design that feels both modern and deeply connected to its surroundings.

Materials were key to this harmony. Charred cedar planks add warmth and durability, while metallic accents reflect the shifting light and greenery. At night, the glowing structure feels almost otherworldly, like a spaceship quietly resting in the woods, creating an incredible atmosphere.
