The Journey: A Retro-Futuristic Animation by Toss & Suess Studio

Created to introduce a major rebrand for Korean financial platform Toss, The Journey is a short animation that transforms the company’s new three-dimensional logo into the protagonist of a surreal sci-fi adventure. Produced by Toss’s internal design team in collaboration with Suess Studio, the short follows the glowing blue form as it travels across strange planets, alien landscapes and unfamiliar worlds.

Rather than aiming for a polished vision of the future, the team looked back to 1970s science fiction and the way space was imagined during that era. Grainy textures, hazy lighting and saturated blues, oranges and greens give the animation a retro-futuristic character, with flying saucers, barren planets and otherworldly forests adding to its nostalgic atmosphere.

Although the film was created in 3D, its visual treatment was designed to feel closer to an illustrated story. Simple shapes and graphic compositions are combined with tactile surfaces and subtle imperfections, giving each frame a softer, more handcrafted character. As the journey unfolds, Toss’s circular blue symbol continually shifts and transforms, turning the company’s new identity into an imaginative world of its own.
