Sweet Memories: Inside the Candy-Coated World of Simone Post

Published Mar 20, 2025

If you ever wondered what it might feel like to step into a candy-coated dream, Simone Post’s upcoming solo exhibition, Sweet Memories, might be your chance to experience just that. Opening at Museum Voorlinden in the Netherlands on April 5, 2025, this immersive installation transforms the artist’s childhood home into a whimsical world made entirely of sweets. From bunk beds woven with pink-and-yellow candied bacon strips to marshmallow furniture, every detail of her early years has been recreated with remarkable detail and craftsmanship.

To bring this vibrant vision to life, Simone used more than 700 kilograms of sweets, but the project is more than just an exercise in confectionery creativity. Sweet Memories taps into a longing for the carefree days of being three years old, where the world felt safe, full of possibilities, and unburdened by adult complexities. The installation perfectly captures that fleeting innocence, surrounding visitors with nostalgic elements like plush toys, storybooks, and even a music box. But there’s a playful tension here, too. The sugary abundance is tantalizing and comforting, yet it hints at the slippery slope of overindulgence and the bittersweet impermanence of perfect moments.
