Surreal Collages and Visual Explorations by André Calvo

Brazilian designer, director and visual artist André Calvo brings together vintage engravings, botanical studies, scientific diagrams and contemporary imagery to create intricate collages. Human figures, animals, flowers and fragments of landscapes overlap across textured fields of color, forming unexpected relationships that invite viewers to build their own narratives.

Some compositions lean into the strange beauty of the natural world, combining birds, insects and plants into surreal hybrids. Others shift toward technology, history and education, layering classical portraits with computers, virtual reality headsets, maps and geometric forms. Halftone patterns, aged paper and archival markings give the work a tactile quality, while André’s bright blocks of color add structure and visual energy.

Over the years, André has collaborated with brands including Netflix, Adobe, Nespresso, Jaguar, Twitter and Audible, and currently works as Design Director at Tag in São Paulo. Alongside his commercial practice, collage offers him a space to experiment more freely, pushing familiar imagery into playful, curious and often unexpected territory.
