Still Fresh: Abstract Portraits by Miloš Hronec
Published Mar 25, 2026
Slovakian artist Miloš Hronec creates his portraits with a loose grip, letting faces slip in and out of clarity through fast, instinctive gestures. In Still Fresh, his oil-on-paper series, familiar human forms are pushed into abstraction, partially erased, smeared and rebuilt through streaks of color that cut across the surface.
The work draws from contemporary rap and alternative culture, not through direct references, but through attitude. Miloš treats painting like a freestyle session, working quickly, reacting in the moment and avoiding overthinking. Faces emerge, then get disrupted by bold swipes of magenta, cyan and deep violet, as if the image is being edited in real time. Some portraits hint at known figures, others feel anonymous, but all of them carry the same energy, immediate, raw and unpolished.
