Sharp Silhouettes and Editorial Metaphors by Vincent Roché
Published Jul 3, 2026
Paris-based art director and illustrator Vincent Roché creates striking visual worlds using deep shadows, bold color and cinematic composition.
Born in the 80s and raised on a steady diet of images and pixels, Vincent grew up drawing his favorite heroes, cutting, modifying and recomposing visuals as a way of understanding them. That early fascination still runs through his work, which often evokes a frame pulled from an animated thriller, sci-fi film, historical drama or graphic novel.
His illustrations are driven by atmosphere as much as narrative, presenting their subjects as sharp silhouettes against glowing skies, city lights, surveillance screens, desert horizons and ominous interiors. The limited use of color gives each image immediate impact, while careful lighting turns simple scenes into moments loaded with tension.
