Scratchboard and woodcut illustrations by Mitch Frey

Published Mar 18, 2014

Love the retro look of these illustrations by talented American artist Mitch Frey.

“When I began working as an illustrator in the early ’90s, (sheesh, this guy is ancient!) highly detailed and realistic scratchboard was one of the styles I chose to work in. I enjoyed the craft, and at the time, I was wired for detail and accuracy. After several years I was ready to transition to simpler and less literal styles rendered with woodcut and digital media. Here are some samples of my earliest work.”
