Rerouted: Photography Series by Justin Dingwall & Roman Handt

Published Mar 15, 2022

South African photographer Justin Dingwall worked in collaboration with fashion designer Roman Handt to produce the fantastic ‘Rerouted’ series of portraits.

“By foregrounding representations of movement – in the imagery of bicycles, motorbikes, and planes, this series investigates feelings about freedom of movement.

Found objects (such as tin cans and other waste) have been used in the creation of the metal toys, so those in themselves are also forms of art that evoke images of exploration. These recognisable recycled toys are widespread around the world. In this series, they have been remodelled into head pieces and fashion accessories for visual impact. Similarly, the plastic bags that have been reshaped into clothing are also a discernible feature that represents travel. These bags hold specific relevance for movement, as they are largely associated with migration.”
