Pop Mash: Aaron Craig’s Nostalgic Cartoon Collisions
Published Sep 22, 2025
Australian pop artist Aaron Craig reimagines the icons of our childhood with his signature Pop Mash paintings. Based on the Sunshine Coast, Aaron brings together fragments of cartoons, comics, and even product packaging into seamless new hybrids that feel instantly familiar yet completely uncanny.
In his creations, Batman sprouts from a Takashi Murakami-inspired flower, Popeye dons a He-Man mask, and the Pink Panther fuses with Bartman’s scowl. At first glance these images spark a rush of nostalgia, but look again and the combinations reveal a playful visual world that shouldn’t really exist, yet somehow does. His crisp super-flat painting style, bold color palette, and compositional balance make each mashup pop with graphic energy.
Aaron has exhibited his work worldwide, from Melbourne and Los Angeles to Hong Kong and Chicago. Throughout his career he also collaborated with cultural heavyweights including Disney, Marvel, and Sesame Street. You can explore more of his Pop Mash art on his website and Instagram.
