Otherworldly Vistas: Kazakhstan Through the Lens of Isabella Tabacchi
Published Jun 18, 2025
Italian photographer Isabella Tabacchi is back on the grid with another stunning series of landscapes, this time turning her lens toward the raw, sculptural beauty of Kazakhstan.
In the Mangystau region, her images reveal a dreamlike terrain shaped by erosion and salt. Chalk cliffs loom like ancient monuments above shimmering flats, while rock formations scatter across the horizon like nature’s own abstract art. The desolate calm of these wide-open spaces gives the impression of another planet entirely. One of the more surreal moments in the series is what Tabacchi calls the “Eye of Kazakhstan.” Captured from above, this natural formation blends a rocky outcrop with concentric salt patterns to form a perfect, eerie eye gazing back at the sky.
Further east, her “Hues of Freedom” shots transport us to the foot of the Tian Shan mountains, where Khan Tengri, the pyramid-shaped “Lord of the Skies,” glows softly in morning light. Horses run wild across meadows below, adding movement and life to these wide, cinematic frames.
