Organic Fiber Sculptures by Tania Banegas

Honduras-born, Los Angeles-based fiber artist Tania Banegas creates intricate textile artworks inspired by the textures, patterns and organic structures found in nature. Combining sculptural forms with carefully considered color palettes, her pieces bring to mind visions of coral formations, microscopic organisms, clusters of fungi and otherworldly landscapes.

Tania’s compositions are made up of densely packed knots, loops and bundles of thread that extend from the surface, creating fascinating three-dimensional surfaces. Her color choices range from earthy neutrals and muted greens to vibrant pinks and electric blues, emphasizing the contrast between the delicate fibers and their striking backgrounds.

Rather than mapping out designs in advance, Tania approaches much of her work intuitively, allowing the materials to guide each composition as it develops. This spontaneous process reflects her fascination with the natural world and its endless variations, resulting in tactile pieces that invite closer inspection and celebrate the beauty of organic growth.
