Neglected Elegance: Photos of Abandoned Places by Janine Pendleton

UK-based photographer Janine Pendleton has spent the last 7 years seeking out and exploring forgotten places around the world, documenting the beauty of decay through photography.

Janine’s urban exploration work is part art, part documentation. Her intriguing photos are presented in articles that detail the history and many stories behind each abandoned structure.

She seeks out old factories, hospitals, schools, churches – all those locations that have seen better days – and creates stunning images from them. By capturing these settings in their state of decay, Pendleton hopes to bring attention to these overlooked spaces and preserve their stories before they are gone forever.

Through her work, Pendleton invites viewers to explore both the beauty and sadness of these derelict locations. As she puts it “No two buildings decline in exactly the same way. It is always interesting to see what happens to these places when they are neglected and forgotten. Visiting these places is like stepping back in time. You get a glimpse of a time decades in the past”.
