Monumental Living: Landmarks Reimagined as Makeshift Settlements
Published Sep 3, 2025
Czech digital artist Filip Hodas, a longtime favorite on the Grid, is back with another series of dystopian visions. In his latest project, Monumental Living, he imagines a future where humanity’s desperate need for shelter has taken over the iconic sites that were once celebrated as cultural treasures.
The Sphinx, Big Ben, the Statue of Liberty, Petra’s Treasury, and even ancient Maran pyramids are reimagined as chaotic, favela-like settlements. Neon crypto billboards and stacked makeshift homes sprawl across their surfaces, blending the digital absurdity of our times with the ruins of historical grandeur.
Filip also sees this series as a personal milestone, marking a big technical leap in his process. While creating Monumental Living, he explored procedural building generation in Houdini, a tool that allowed him to craft the intricate, layered architecture that defines each scene.
You can explore more of Filip Hodas’ work on his website, Behance and Instagram.
