Maximalist Mythologies by Vietnamese Illustrator Stung
Published Dec 8, 2025
Vietnamese artist and designer Tùng Son Lê, better known as Stung, creates bold illustrations that feel alive with color, pattern and symbolism. His maximalist compositions mix contemporary edge with traditional Vietnamese motifs, blending mythology, folk ornamentation and neon soaked surrealism into a visual world that is entirely his own.
Across his work, you will often find deities, spirits and hybrid creatures rendered with meticulous detail and a vibrant palette. Baby faced figures rest on cloud like forms wrapped in patterned textiles, serpents coil across ceremonial garments, and mythic beings emerge from swirling landscapes. Stung layers these scenes with ornate references to Dong Ho painting, temple décor, lacquer art and other familiar cultural elements, then pushes them into dreamlike territory through exaggerated forms and modern psychedelic energy.
You can explore more of Stung’s work on Behance and Instagram.
