Little Moments of Joy: Sculptures by Mariela Garibay

Peruvian artist Mariela Garibay creates delightful figurative sculptures that celebrate the simple pleasures of life. Born in Lima in 1976, Mariela studied sculpture at the Catholic University of Peru before completing a master’s degree at the University of Barcelona. Her work captures the innocence of childhood through charming characters with rounded silhouettes, exaggerated proportions and gentle expressions.

Whether riding a scooter, playing a flute, reaching toward a butterfly or floating through the air, Mariela’s adorable figures capture moments of freedom, tenderness and pure joy. Other pieces feature pairs of characters dancing, embracing or sharing quiet gestures of affection. With their oversized limbs, closed eyes and peaceful smiles, these playful creations have a wonderful sense of movement and personality, enhanced by smooth, polished surfaces and finishes that range from warm bronze tones to soft blues and whites.
