Intriguing Oil on Wood Artworks by Ruslan Onishchenko
Published May 8, 2025
Ruslan ‘Jean Ro’ Onishchenko is an incredible artist known for his exquisite oil paintings on wood. Born in 1980 and originally trained as a graphic artist, he began his professional artistic career in 2007. Since then, his work has gained a lot of attention worldwide, and it’s easy to see why.
Many of his paintings come to life on his own handcrafted “Victorian” cabinets and curios, which serve as unique canvases for his art. Through these creations, he explores the complex, almost mystical nature of human relationships. Instead of drawing inspiration from classical painters, his creativity is fueled by literary influences, particularly the writings of Russian novelist and philosopher Fyodor Dostoevsky. In his pieces, he tells his own stories through imagined divine figures, exploring themes of isolation, connection and wonder.
