In the Depths of memory: An Immersive Experience by Levi van Veluw
Published May 8, 2025
In the depths of memory is a fascinating collection of works by artist Levi van Veluw that dives deep into the elusive realm of human recollection. Through sculptures, film and a striking installation, Levi tackles memory not as neatly captured snapshots but as a raw mixture of sensory fragments. Using intricate wooden lines carved from tulip wood, his wall sculptures reflect the chaotic and delicate nature of our memory’s architecture.
One of the highlights of this exhibition is an immersive installation where visitors step into a dark, circular room surrounded by towering cabinets overflowing with sculpted heads. It feels prison-like, impossibly vast and deeply personal all at once. Adding to the unsettling atmosphere, a looping film shows the artist painstakingly molding clay replicas of his own head in a seemingly endless cycle of creation. From the repetitive act of molding his likeness to the mingling sensations in half-remembered memories, this artistic experience is a poignant exploration of how we all experience remembering and being remembered.
