Icons Painted in Ink & Tea by Carne Griffiths
Published Sep 1, 2025
“Icons Painted in Ink and Tea” is another striking series by UK-based artist Carne Griffiths where he reimagines 20th-century legends using his distinctive mix of ink, graphite and unconventional materials like tea. These portraits are part of a planned 52-card deck featuring icons from art, science, politics, music, and film.
Among the first twelve portraits are instantly recognizable figures such as Andy Warhol, Albert Einstein, Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain, and Marilyn Monroe. Each is brought to life through Carne’s expressive and dreamlike style, where delicate ink lines meet fluid washes of tea, balancing precision with spontaneity.
With plans to expand the collection into a full deck, “Icons Painted in Ink and Tea” is a series to keep an eye on. You can explore more of Carne Griffiths’ work on his website and Instagram.
