Hyperrealistic Ocean Paintings by Andreea Ionela Berindei
Published Feb 26, 2026
Auckland-based artist Andreea Ionela Berindei translates the raw kinetic energy of the ocean into meticulous oil and acrylic studies. Her Water series captures the surface of the sea as a complex, three-dimensional landscape, moving beyond the traditional horizon to focus on the architecture of crests and troughs.
Andreea’s process highlights the contrast between the heavy, translucent “glass” of a swell and the fragile, lace-like patterns of sea foam. Her palette moves from deep obsidian tones to electric turquoises, using vibrant shading to define the physical weight of the water. Each brushstroke locks in a moment of tension, just before a wave folds into spray.
Beyond their technical control, the paintings examine the duality of the sea, with its immense power and meditative rhythm. By using tight framing to isolate the wave from the shoreline, Andreea bridges the gap between hyper-realism and abstraction, emphasizing the ocean’s enduring, sculptural presence.
