Gold & Silver: Photos by Joni Niemelä
Published Feb 13, 2024
The “Gold and Silver” series by Finnish photographer Joni Niemelä is a captivating exploration of perception and the transformative power of art. The series features a collection of images that transform ordinary clay and mud into mesmerizing visions of precious metals.
At first glance, the images from the “Gold and Silver” series seem to depict aerial landscape images or abstract paintings, but they are actually close-up shots of clay and mud.
To create these impactful images, Joni started his process by taking high-resolution photographs of clay and mud, then digitally manipulated them to apply a metallic sheen to the fluid, dynamic surfaces. The final results are images that look like photographs of gold and silver landscapes seen from above.
