Fragments of the City: The Art of Morfai

Published May 29, 2025

Timotiejus Norvila, better known as Morfai, was among the first artists to bring street art into the spotlight in Lithuania. His early works, found in places like Kaunas, Vilnius and siauliai, quietly reshaped how people interacted with their surroundings. Rather than going for bold spectacle, Morfai leaned into subtle, site-specific pieces that played off the architecture and textures of the city. It was less about making noise and more about shifting how people see familiar spaces.

Over time, his practice has expanded to include photography, painting, illustration and design, but street art remains a central thread in his work. You can still find his murals, both older pieces and new ones, across Lithuania and in cities abroad, from Ireland to Spain. His recent works carry the same attention to placement and atmosphere, often exploring themes around memory, everyday life, and the gaps in our built environments.

For him, bringing art into public space was never just a trend, it was about access and presence. As he once said, “People who normally would never see your creation now have an opportunity to see it.” It’s a philosophy that continues to shape the way he works today, no matter the medium.
