Fragmented Icons: Louis De Guzman’s Sculptural Take on Pop Icons
Published Aug 8, 2025
Filipino-American artist Louis De Guzman brings a dynamic new energy to some of the world’s most recognizable pop culture characters through his fragmented, geometric sculptures. From Sonic the Hedgehog and Bugs Bunny to SpongeBob, Astro Boy and Bart Simpson, Louis’ vibrant reimaginings explode with color, movement and personality. His signature style, full of jagged, prismatic shapes, makes it feel like these characters are breaking apart or coming together in real time.
He describes his work as a way of “merging his past with his present,” building a bridge between his immigrant roots and modern creative influences. While this feature focuses on his collectible sculptures and art toys, Louis’ multidisciplinary practice also spans installations, paintings and design.
