Floating: Sculptures & Art Installations by Derya Ozparlak
Published Apr 19, 2023
Derya Ozparlak is a multidisciplinary Canadian artist whose work explores the human condition. She graduated with a BFA in Sculpture from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Anadolu University in Turkey and has since exhibited her work in solo and group shows across Canada and internationally in Italy, Spain, and other countries.
Her most iconic works feature metal sculptures of human figures held aloft by balloons. These pieces explore themes of freedom, joy, and resilience. The balloons are often brightly coloured and the figures appear to be frozen in time, conveying a sense of lightness and optimism.
