Fire Boy & the Neo-Thai Future: The Art of KNN.5
Published Oct 29, 2025
Thai artist Kanutsanan Khemthong, aka KNN.5, is building an entire world out of flame, nostalgia and futurism. His multidisciplinary practice, spanning painting, illustration, sculpture and toy design, fuses the language of manga and anime with distinctly Thai cultural sensibilities, creating vivid visions of a dystopian future.
At the center of his ongoing project “NEOTHAICIVILIZATION” is Fire Boy, a recurring character whose fiery hair and four wide, gleaming eyes have become the artist’s unmistakable signature. In this post-apocalyptic realm, KNN.5 reimagines humanity’s evolution after a cultural and environmental reset, blending traditional motifs with futuristic technologies.
Rendered in hyper-saturated gradients and soft airbrush transitions, KNN.5’s works shimmer with a retro-futurist glow. Fire Boy’s robotic arm, flowing red scarf, and flame-crowned head embody the spirit of survival and transformation, a symbol of resilience in an imagined future where Thai identity and pop surrealism merge into a single cosmic narrative.
You can explore more of KNN.5’s world through his vibrant paintings and collectible sculptures on his portfolio and Instagram.
