Fascinating Sculptures & Furniture Design by Joyce Lin
Published Feb 12, 2025
Joyce Lin is not your typical artist and furniture designer, she’s a storyteller who blurs the boundaries between the natural and the man-made. Her pieces invite us to look beneath the surface, literally and figuratively. Working across mediums like wood, resin, and found objects, Joyce creates sculptural objects that feel alive, almost like they grew into their shape instead of being built. Her work explores the intricate relationship between outer forms and their hidden interiors, serving as a reflection on the convergence of nature and technology in our everyday lives.
With a background in Furniture Design from RISD and Geology-Biology from Brown, Joyce blends scientific curiosity with artistic design, resulting in sculptures that reflect the intersection of nature and technology. Her exceptional talent has earned her various awards, including the prestigious Samuel Gragg Award for Innovation, and her work has been showcased in museums and galleries around the world, from the RISD Museum to the Carnegie Museum of Art and SFMOMA.
Now based in Houston, she continues to craft thought-provoking pieces in her studio at East End Maker Hub. If you’d like to discover more of Joyce’s work, check out her website.
