Expressive Portrait Drawings by Mad Charcoal

Published Jul 5, 2024

Josh Hernandez, aka Mad Charcoal, is an artist based in Arizona who creates amazing charcoal portraits with an incredibly expressive technique.

Josh’s passion for art started from a young age. Growing up in Los Angeles, he was fascinated by the vibrant urban environment, translating his observations and emotions into chaotic and captivating sketches. These early works, infused with elements of realism, laid the foundation for what would become his distinctive signature style.

After delving into the world of graphic design for several years and developing a successful career, Josh felt a pull towards his original passion. Returning to drawing and painting has allowed him to hone his skills and master the interplay of chaos and structure. Through his highly energetic creative process, Josh crafts mesmerizing portraits brimming with emotion and complexity.
