Expressive Mixed Media Portraits by Alberto Mancini
Published Oct 20, 2025
Soft washes of watercolor meet delicate pencil lines and expressive ink work in the portraits of Italian illustrator Alberto Mancini. Now based in Brazil, he creates captivating mixed media pieces that explore identity, mood and memory.
Music plays a central role in his creative process. Many of Mancini’s portraits are titled after songs – Sonnet by The Verve, A Letter to Elise by The Cure, Into My Arms by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and Desert Rose by Sting, among others – infusing each piece with a lyrical mood and emotional depth. Inspired by these tracks, he layers pencil, ink and watercolor to build character studies that hover between drawing and painting, realism and abstraction.
