JSAUX 6-in-1 Docking Station Review: A Versatile Dock for the ROG Ally X

The first dock fully compatible with the ROG Ally X is finally here.

If you just picked up a brand new ROG Ally X and are looking for the perfect dock, you may notice that many of the docking stations available on the market right now are not be compatible with the handheld. The USB-C cables provided with most docks are often too short to reach the ports on the Ally X, and its thicker design can make it difficult for the device to fit into certain stands.

To address these issues and ensure maximum compatibility, JSAUX launched a new 6-in-1 docking station that not only supports the ROG Ally X but also works with the original ROG Ally, Steam Deck, Lenovo Legion Go, and many other handheld gaming systems.

It’s worth noting that you will want to use an HDMI 2.1 cable when connecting to an external monitor to get the best possible experience, so make sure you get the right one.

When the USB-C cable isn’t in use, it can be neatly tucked away using this slot, which is not a functional port.

Design & Build Quality

The thing I love the most about this dock is how compact and modular it is, thanks to its two-piece design. So if you’re looking for a travel-friendly dock, you can easily leave the stand at home and just toss the USB-C module in your bag. On top of that, when you’re not using the dock, the base doubles as a display stand for your handheld.

The design is minimal and unobtrusive, and the black look pairs well with the Ally X. The build quality is also quite good overall, including a nice braided cable that can be used to connect the dock to your devices.

The base however, is one of the shortcomings of this modular design. It does have an anti-slip rubber pad on the bottom to help keep it steady, but it’s too small to provide enough stability, and the Ally X ends up feeling a bit wobbly on top of it. I haven’t been able to test it with a wider device like the Lenovo Legion Go, but I can imagine that larger handhelds would be pretty unstable on that small stand.

On the other hand, the slot where you place the handheld is very spacious, which is great for thicker devices like the Steam Deck, Legion Go and the Ally X, but a bit too roomy for the original Ally. You can definitely still use it with that model, but it’s not an ideal fit. If you own the original Ally, I’d suggest checking out the 12-in-1 RGB dock instead, which is still one of my favourite docks for the device.

Since JSAUX is aiming for ultimate compatibility with this dock, it would be great if they could add a wider, sturdier base in future versions. Another nice addition would be an adjustable slot for devices of varying thicknesses. These small enhancements could make this a killer product.

Make it your own

One feature that might be interesting for those that like to add a personal touch to their products is this transparent cover that can be removed, so you can pop in your own designs to customize the look of the unit.

JSAUX has also shared the 3D models for the base stand, USB-C enclosure and cover on Printables, so you can take the personalization aspect even further using a 3D printer like the Ankermake M5C.

I am not sure how many people would actually be interested in these aspects, but I really appreciate the fact that JSAUX is always trying to give customers a little bit extra with every new product they launch.

Performance & Use Cases

During my testing, the JSAUX 6-in-1 dock performed extremely well. I used it to connect my handhelds to a mouse, keyboard and 4K gaming monitor, while using a controller via Bluetooth.

This docking station is capable of handling resolutions from 1080p at 240Hz right up to 4K at 120Hz for some seriously smooth gaming through HDMI 2.1. And if you use a 65W or higher power supply, you can take full advantage of turbo mode at 30W on the ROG Ally X.

But the greatest thing about this dock is its modularity. Since the USB-C hub is detachable, the dock can be used on the go and it can also be connected to laptops and other devices.

While I was testing it out, I used it with my MacBook during the day and enjoyed it so much that I’ve decided to replace my old USB hub with this unit. And when I need a super portable gaming dock, I can easily take it with me anywhere, so I can enjoy the best of both worlds.
