Designer Kostya Petrenko Reimagines City Logos in Retro 80s Style
Published Feb 13, 2026
Czech designer Kostya Petrenko continues his deep dive into retro graphic culture with a new series that imagines famous city logos as if they were designed in 1984. Building on the nostalgic energy of his 1980s Rewind project we featured last year, Kostya shifts his focus from global brands to global destinations, filtering each identity through the visual language of arcade screens and late-night television idents.
New York appears in glowing blue and yellow, framed by a simplified skyline and a radiant sun. Tokyo pairs bold geometric type with a striped rising sun and Mount Fuji. London is distilled into a flat, neon-yellow Big Ben, while Berlin’s iconic TV Tower becomes a concentric target of saturated reds and oranges. Other cities like Rome, Prague, Miami and Kyiv follow the same pattern, each logo reduced to crisp silhouettes, heavy gradients and punchy, high-contrast palettes.
The series pairs flat graphics with short looping animations, complete with scanlines, bloom and subtle distortion that mimic the texture of a CRT television. It is a fun continuation of Kostya’s ongoing exploration of 1980s visuals. You can explore more of his retro experiments on Behance and Instagram.
