Bold Type & Playful Energy: The Typography of Holy Moly
Published Jan 26, 2026
Bristol-based illustrator and designer Carl Cozier, better known as Holy Moly, creates loud, high-impact typography packed with energy and movement. In his work, letters tilt, collide and stack into dense compositions where type becomes image.
Saturated palettes and geometric slicing define Carl’s process. Characters stretch and overlap, shadows double as structure, and patterns push through negative space. The words remain readable, but only just, a tension that gives each piece momentum and attitude without sacrificing clarity. That energy translates easily across formats, from posters and book covers to large-scale murals and editorial work. You can see this throughout his portfolio, in projects crafted for brands like Penguin Books, Adobe and The Guardian.
