Block by Block: Paintings by Sepand Danesh
Published Jul 29, 2024
Sepand Danesh is an artist born in Tehran and now based in France, whose work spans paintings, drawings and installations. His practice delves into themes such as memory, identity and spatial perception, with a unique approach that merges his Iranian heritage with Western art traditions.
Sepand often incorporates pop culture elements and historical figures into his compositions, but the most recognizable aspect of his work is his distinctive use of geometric motifs and distorted perspectives. His acrylic on canvas paintings feature characters rendered in three-dimensional blocks, evoking a 3D pixel art style similar to Minecraft.
