Before They Pass Away: Photos of Remote Tribes by Jimmy Nelson

Published Dec 19, 2013

Before They Pass Away” is a fantastic long-term project by Jimmy Nelson. The photographer has spent the past three years traveling to some of the most remote places on Earth, capturing the lives of the slowly vanishing indigenous people of Papua New Guinea, Kazakhstan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nepal, New Zealand, India, Siberia and many other regions.

“I wanted to witness their time-honoured traditions, join in their rituals and discover how the rest of the world is threatening to change their way of life forever. Most importantly, I wanted to create an ambitious aesthetic photographic document that would stand the test of time. A body of work that would be an irreplaceable ethnographic record of a fast disappearing world.”
