Bardenas Rojas: Alien Terrain by Roland Kraemer
Published May 11, 2026
German photographer Roland Kraemer captured the Bardenas Reales, a semi-desert natural park in northern Spain, in a vivid study of erosion, texture and color.
The park is known for its arid terrain, badlands, canyons and sedimentary rock formations shaped over millions of years. Roland focuses on the region’s red tones, tracing them across cracked clay surfaces, pale ridges, rust-colored bands and sculptural rock shelves. The images move between sweeping views and tighter fragments, often reducing the landscape to folds, strata and abstract geological patterns.
