Amazing LEGO Sculptures by Ekow Nimako

Published Mar 19, 2024

Toronto-based artist Ekow Nimako creates enchanting and futuristic sculptures using LEGO bricks. In both commissioned projects and his own fine art creations, Ekow consistently infuses his work with a distinctive combination of playfulness and innovation.

Ekow’s work draws inspiration from diverse sources, including West African masquerade, science fiction and street art. His artworks serve as a bridge between these influences, resulting in pieces that are both aesthetically appealing and rich in cultural significance.

A significant aspect of Ekow’s practice is his “Building Black” series, which includes “Building Black Mythos,” “Building Black Civilizations,” “Building Black Graphica” and “Building Black Amorphia”. This collection is more than just an artistic endeavor, it’s a powerful statement on culture, identity and history. Through the use of only black LEGO bricks, he crafts strikingly surreal sculptures that resonate with themes of Afrofuturism and West African heritage.
