Al Nehem Whale Shark Installation by Marco Balich
Published Jan 13, 2023
Renowned artist Marco Balich and his creative team have recently unveiled ‘Al Nehem’, a large whale shark art installation in Doha, Qatar. This unique piece of public art was created to draw attention to the plight of oceanic wildlife and bring awareness to conservation efforts.
With this piece, Balich draws from his repertoire of experiences as a producer for Olympic ceremonies, including Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016. He incorporates elements of traditional Arabic culture with modern environmentalism to create an engaging and visually-stunning work that is sure to amaze passersby with its size and intricate detail.
At night, the aluminum and steel whale shark is brought to life with lights and music, including a bespoke composition by celebrated maestro Roberto Cacciapaglia. Al Nehem stands at an impressive 30-meter long, suspended 20 metres above Lusail Plaza between the four Lusail Towers, making it a truly remarkable sight to behold!
