A Little Miss & Her Vibrant Outfits: Embroidered Creations by Nengiren
Published Dec 9, 2025
Jakarta based artist Irene Saputra, also known as Nengiren, has crafted an enchanting world around a single recurring figure she calls Nona Kecil (“Little Miss” in Indonesian). The fashion-forward character appears again and again in Irene’s embroidery, each time dressed in a completely new outfit.
Nona’s silhouette always stays the same, yet her wardrobe becomes a playground for pattern, texture and color. Irene builds each look with dense stitches that create rich surfaces, turning flowers, geometric shapes and whimsical motifs into sculptural garments. Every variation feels like a new mood or story expressed through fashion.
Part of the series’ charm comes from this balance between consistency and transformation. Nona Kecil becomes a canvas for Irene’s experimentation, offering endless reinventions while keeping the work grounded in a familiar element.
