Speed of Light: Art Installation by United Visual Artists
Published Jan 22, 2013
Fantastic installation by United Visual Artists (UVA), an art and design practice based in London and working internationally.
“Speed of Light celebrates the tenth anniversary of broadband in the UK. Stripped back to its essentials, optical fibre is a thin strand of glass, with nothing more than a flickering beam of light traveling along it. United Visual Artists have used this beam as the starting point for the work.
The installation took over all four storeys of the industrial art-space Bargehouse on the Thames riverside for a period of 10 days. Visitors were invited to immerse themselves in a massive labyrinth of laser sculptures, built on the idea of speed being light, and light being data.
Winner of the Creative Review Annual Award 2011 and listed Best in Book for the same Award.”
