“Play” by Jessica Lichtenstein
Published Dec 1, 2011
Interesting work by artist Jessica Lichtenstein. Her exhibition “Play” is currently up at gallery nine5 in New York.
“Lichtenstein focuses on Japanese pop-erotica figurines and recontextualizes them in invented landscapes in acrylic pieces like ‘Yum’ or imbues them with a Western persona which can be seen in resin installation pieces like ‘T.R.O.U.B.L.E’. The artist wants to put the ultimate focus on the viewer; are the dolls in fact sexy, or ridiculous?
The artist’s work is already in homes of some of the most important pop-art collectors, and held in private collections in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, New York, Palm Beach, Beverly Hills, Nice, London, Paris and Madrid. Most recently, Lichtenstein participated in and sold out her work at the SCOPE New York Art Show.”
Special thanks to Irina Gusin.
