Main Entrance Gate of “Tierra Cálida” by Clavel Arquitectos
Fantastic sculptural architecture by Spanish studio Clavel Arquitectos.
“This project, awarded as a result of a restricted tender, was for the construction of a main entrance gate that would centralize the access to a suburban residential development of over 3,500 houses. The entrance gateway should act as an icon visible from the road, clearly indicating the access roads, but at the same time, it should symbolize the act of entering and exiting and as such the construction should represent a doorway.
In this project we had to decide how to construct an opening of a height of 16 metres and at the same time make it functional and durable. The decision was made to fold the structure, thus enabling the construction to be made of concrete of a thickness of just 30 cm.
The project required that the gateway be made of just one structure in which the security control post would be housed and this we placed in the very fold of the construction. The lighting was installed in holes cut out of the concrete, thus integrating the illumination, converting the structure into a eye-catching vision, that changes from daytime, when it is almost organic and alive in texture and colour, to evening when it takes on a more technological presence – a silhouette with waves of light that emphasize the entrance.”Architecture Posted on August 8, 2011
