We have featured his floppy disk paintings on the grid a while ago and since then he’s been exploring his creativity with new materials such as film negative and x-rays.

Santa Cruz is a quick service Mexican BBQ restaurant located in northeast Mexico. Their menu contains items such as brisket and baby-back ribs slow-cooked to tender perfection and offered in an array of different ready-to-go, conventional styles such as burgers and tacos.

Mexican design firm Anagrama created this impressive identity with a “hand-made” feel, meant to “praise the careful, traditional and apprehensive food making process of Santa Cruz”.

“The brand is simple and direct, and above all, always honest and sincere, never attempting to hide its conceptual rugged awkwardness. Destined to be franchised in the future, Santa Cruz’s honest and handcrafted demeanor will inevitably be distinctive amid all other, more synthetic fast food chain restaurants.

The project was done in collaboration with architect Eiji Hayakawa. While we developed the brand values and visual identity, Eiji worked on the restaurant’s unique and unusual architecture. The massive, scarlet barn-like structure is distinctively prominent amid the industrially gray and blue mountainous backdrop of its physical setting.”

New light painted captures of abandoned locations and junkyards by American photographer Troy Paiva, aka Lost America (previously).

“His documentarian, yet surrealist – sometimes playful, sometimes haunting work examines the evolution and eventual abandonment of the communities, infrastructure and social iconography spawned during America’s 20th century expansion into the cities and deserts of the West – and the intensely exhilarating, yet strangely comforting act of sneaking around in the middle of the night, creating art from its ruins.”

Beautiful drawings and paintings by Martine Johanna, a Dutch contemporary artist living and working in Amsterdam.

“My very first obsession was for high fashion, folk & ethnic clothing and couture throughout the years, from a young age scrimmaging trough my mother’s closet, shoes and make up. Even though the small village I grew up in did not accept outsider behavior, my imagination never crumbled. Exhaling my emotions in drawing, painting, dancing and creative outbursts. Music and music videos were one of my first loves, I wanted to be a dancer for a long time. Instead, at 19 I went to study art & fashion, obtained a masters degree, became a fashion designer and finally in 2008 fully returned to painting and drawing. I’m still working hard to develop not only my skills technically but also to stay creative over-all. I also teach at the university of Amsterdam, do visual forecastings for big agencies and style fashion shows.”

Emilio Garcia is a Spanish visual artist with a long career trajectory in different fields like illustration, design, creativity and art, among others.

“Emilio, concerned with the digitalization of our society, saw his culture moving slowly away from the tangible. As reaction to this, he left his multimedia career and embraced the tactile. Drawn to the fascination of plastic, he started a new stage with the Secret Lapo Laboratories, a space for plastic experimentation, where he can give capacity to his artistic restlessness, far away from bits, clicks, databases and scripts.”

He’s also the creator of “Jumping Brain“, a fine art shop selling limited-edition art pieces and toys.

Singapore-based studio Somewhere Else just released this comprehensive brand identity system for Foodology, an 8,000 square feet restaurant located in Singapore’s financial district.

“Based on the name, the identity treats Foodology as an institution for food and borrows different graphic elements from academia to create its own unique voice. The logo is designed like a seal with a “F” symbol and to express the fact that Foodology provides a wide selection of foods, the logotype comes in 6 different permutations with the “o”s replaced by different abstract symbols. To ensure that the identity system is flexible enough to accomomodate the different situations and broad spectrum of applications such a brand may encounter, an extensive set of illustrations and secondary graphics were also developed. These graphics allow the brand to be dynamic and show customers a multi-faceted, well rounded personality.”
